Projects from my Visual Communications course where we tell stories through photography and videography through using composition, lighting and other techniques.

Sydney Thompson

My body of work explores identity and personality using photography, print and video to tell authentic stories. I aim to capture real emotion and the subtle moments that reveal who people are beyond the surface.

As a journalism and sociology student, I’m drawn to people-centered storytelling. Journalism teaches me to seek truth and amplify voices, while sociology helps me understand the systems and contexts shaping those stories. My minor in marketing helps me learn to present my information effctively by being clear and consise. 

​

My aesthetic focuses on candid imagery, movement and natural light. As an athlete, I’m influenced by themes of discipline, hardwork and perseverance, which often appear in my work’s rhythm and energy.

Looking ahead, I hope to continue using multimedia storytelling to build understanding and connection, whether visual or written, to represent people, their past and how its shaped them to who they've become.
